Bo Asplund

Bob the Builder – the electrician from Humlebæk

From his apartment in Østerbro, Bo can enjoy the view of a handful of the construction projects he has helped shape. With a background as an electrician and electrical installer, he has been involved in the planning and management of complex electrical installations, including at the Opera House. It was his four years of work on the Opera House that opened the doors to other major project assignments. Leadership responsibilities soon followed. He worked for several of the largest Danish, Nordic, and international engineering firms, with job changes almost always prompted by a headhunter’s intervention.

After his position as director at the former Orbicon, he found himself at a dead end, spending about a year and nearly 200 coffee meetings before a new opportunity in a real estate development company emerged. He transitioned from the engineering industry to the developer role, and when a headhunter later lured him back into engineering, he saw firsthand how headhunting should not be done. This sparked his interest in the field. After nearly four years at an international headhunting firm, where he gained the necessary insight and experience, he founded Asplund Search & Consulting in 2022.

Bo grew up in Humlebæk, where he also built his own house in 2003. Now, with his three children having left the nest, he has moved to Østerbro, where he enjoys the aforementioned view, takes walks with his dog, and stays fit at the gym. Occasionally, he returns to North Zealand, for example, when he goes hunting with past and present business associates.

Morten Mølsted

The financial crisis became his fate

Morten thought he was going to sell real estate. After completing his education as a real estate agent, he started at Nybolig before becoming a commercial broker at Colliers a few years later.

But then the financial crisis hit, and he had to change course. He got a job at Shell, where he was responsible for developing and divesting nearly 150 plots and service stations to find new uses for them. Essentially, the goal was to make himself redundant, as the position would naturally be phased out once the task was completed.

Morten continued in a similar role at HOFOR, but this time dealing with waterworks, pumping stations, and operational buildings. Since then, he has worked with project development, asset management, and real estate development—most recently at NCC before starting his own company in 2021.

Privately, his work has influenced him, as he has built several of the houses he has lived in. In his current home in Ballerup, he lives with his wife, Pernille, and their two daughters. His free time is spent on golf, tennis, mountain biking, and padel, while vacations are preferably spent skiing.

Jacob Møller-Nielsen

Coincidences and extreme determination

Jacob originally intended to become a doctor, but his high school grades weren’t quite high enough. Instead, he followed in his father’s footsteps and became a civil engineer. After completing his education, he initially secured a job at DSB, where he was supposed to work on railway bridges—a fairly secure job at the time, offering employment stability and a good pension. However, Jacob never actually started at the state railways. Through an acquaintance at a plumbing company, he ended up at Skanska instead, where he has worked with real estate for nearly 30 years. That being said, he has rarely stayed in the same position for more than five years at a time.

Over time, the technical aspects of his daily work as a structural engineer took a backseat, making way for project and business development, financial models, and risk analyses. However, his focus has always remained on colleagues and business partners, as one of Jacob’s strengths lies in working with people. He has held various leadership roles in Denmark and abroad, covering project development, property management, real estate transactions, risk management, and sustainability. When the liquidity crisis hit the real estate sector, Jacob sought new opportunities in 2024. He reached out to Asplund Search to be considered for a new position, but Bo Asplund quickly recognized Jacob’s strengths and instead offered him a role as a headhunter at Asplund Search & Consulting.

Jacob lives with his wife and dog in Hellerup, where he has spent most of his life. In his free time, he enjoys strength training and spinning, good food and wine, and, above all, long walks and hikes—preferably in mountainous regions under southern skies, a vacation style he has recently come to favor. But he also enjoys hiking closer to home when he needs to recharge on weekends.
